We Would Love Your Vote!24---40

We were so honored to find out yesterday by someone tweeting that out of over 200 entries, we made the top 25 for Show It‘s Best of 2009 Photographer of the Year!  We are honored and super thrilled!  There are so many great photographers in the running not only for the category we are in, but in the other categories as well.  Sooooooo, now the polls are open and the voting begins!

If you choose to accept this challenge…. it would be awesome!!

CLICK HERE to submit your vote on Facebook for us or click on the image below!

For those who are unfamiliar with ShowIt Sites, you are missing out BIG time!!   Show It Sites is a simple drag and drop platform for you to design your own sharp looking website and update and change things at ANY point.  It has rocked our world and we cannot recommend it enough for photographers, venues, videographers, etc!  Some other local vendors who have Show It sites are killer Nashville wedding videography team – 2Duce2, as well as Williamson County Weddings & Events, just to name a few!  The options are absolutly ENDless with Show It and you will never have your site looking like someone elses.  You can be totally unique and bring in your own personality and do WHATever you want.  It’s great :)

Thanks for your vote!  We will shake hands and kiss the babies after this…

darcie I did my part! Hope you win!
David Ford I am sure you guys hear this all the time....but I have to tell you again....You guys are fantastic! The lighting ideas, the depth of focus, and the incredible in-the-moment candid shots are inspiring. Thanks for the inspiration.
The Velvet Trunk So proud of you guys!!! Voted!!! =) =)
Jody Gray Lol sorry for the glaze-over :) Clarification - we first heard about it from photog Cameron and then from our awesome associate photog Kristine!!! Yayayayayayay!
Kristine "someone tweeted"? and who would that someone be? :)

Published in PPA Magazine!26---40

Ah, and now it’s time to brag on my husband!!!!!!!!!

PPA Magazine (Professional Photographers of America) holds a cover image contest for one of its issues every year.  A few months ago we were contacted by them saying that an image Zach submitted of his made it to the top 100…which was really exciting because there were more than 4,600 entries entered of photographers vying for a spot in the magazine spread. Then we found out more recently Zach made it to the top 15 and was going to be published amongst the winners!!  We were (and are) pretty pumped and if you look through the November issue you’ll see his image among the other finalists and winner (who is also from Nashville!)!

Here is the magazine cover shot (by Mama Shan of Nashville, TN!).

Here is Zach’s image from the magazine spread (sorry for the low res!).

And here is the shot that Zach took way back in early 2008 of the amazingly awesome Casey and Carmen!

Westcott and SanDisk Visit Our Studio!38---40

As you may know, we are endorsed by one of the top lighting companies, Westcott, and this last Thursday we had the opportunity to meet John Williams the Southeastern United States rep for Westcott at our studio.  Along with him came Peter Liebmann the National Strategic Account Manager for SanDisk (FYI SanDisk is the only company we use for our compact flash cards).  We had a nice time chatting with John & Peter,  and Peter even snapped a picture of us with John with his iPhone. Can you believe we had no cameras with us?  iPhone to the rescue!

Westcott Rep John Williams and Zach and Jody Gray of GrayPhotography

Thanks John & Peter for taking time to get together with us!

Speaking of Westcott, the site for their Top Endorsed Pros is up!  Again, we are thrilled to be a part of this and to be recognized with so many other great photographers.  To view our page and to check out some amazing work from the other guys visit this link or click on the image below.

Endorsement! (Plus A Perk for Workshop Attendees!)50---40

We have been waiting to announce this and have decided it’s high time to share the good news!

We have been selected as one of Westcott’s Top Endorsed Pros!  In other words, Westcott has decided to recognize us as one of the leading photographers and we now are officially endorsed by them! (We’ll let you know once their Endorsed Pro site goes live).

For those who may not be entirely familiar with Westcott…. – “Westcott is a world leader in professional photography and video lighting equipment. Since Westcott entered the photography market over 83 years ago, Westcott has been a major innovator in devising professional light control products. With over 600 items for professional and beginning photographers as well as the scrapbooking and film/video markets, we have continued a long-standing commitment to product innovation.”

We are super thrilled and honored to be a Top Endorsed Pro with many other great photographers such as Jeffrey & Julie Woods, Parker J Pfister, Ed Pierce, Scott Kelby, to name a few!  A big thanks goes out to Westcott and we are excited to partner with you guys!

Westcott Top Endorsed Pro - Zach and Jody Gray

As of today, we have two spots left for our IN-CAMERA: Light workshop that is being held less than 2 weeks from now.  For more info and to register click on the provided links.

Here is a picture of Zach opening our Strobelight PLUS Two Light kit that Westcott donated to us for use in our upcoming and future workshops!  You will be able to see this and touch it in the flesh at our workshop! :)

Camera Dojo…. Sound familiar?

If not, and you’re a photographer – you are missing out!

We have the honor of being featured on Kerry’s CameraDojo podcast this week!  We give a little glimpse into what we will be speaking about at PartnerCon 2009, and will hopefully whet your appetite to hear the full shpeal and join in dialogue and Q&A’s with us in New Orleans!

CameraDojo

A brief synopsis on CameraDojo: Orange County photographer Kerry Garrison (http://kerrygarrison.com) is the creator of CameraDojo, and his heart is essentially equipping other photographers and sharing information whether through tutorials, product reviews, articles, and CameraDojo even has a forum for photographers to share/discuss a variety of topics on photography and gear.  Last year in May, the weekly CameraDojo podcast was birthed which is now one of the top photography podcasts in iTunes (holla!) and Kerry has featured well-known photographers such as Mike LarsonScarlett Lillian, Candice Cunningham, Gene Higa (named one of the top 10 photographers in the world), celebrity photographer Robert Evans, as well as Dane Sanders (Author of FastTrack Photographer), Tom Hogarty (Lightroom Product Manager), and many others who you will just have to check out for yourself on CameraDojo’s podcast lineup.

To listen to the podcast and to subscribe, visit CameraDojo.com and leave a comment for Kerry while you’re there!

Dana Sipper Hey Zach+Jody...just finished listening to your podcast with Kerry, great interview! You guys sound so much life Jeff+I it is scary... :-) Much success to you both, we hope to meet you both at some point. J+D
Paul Maynard I just listened to the podcast while at work (car photographer during the week - Wedding & Portrait Photographer on the weekends), and I love your story. It was very inspiring, and I feel as if I am in the same boat right now. I wish I were closer, because I would love to hear more about the business side of photography. I have some knowledge, and I am learning as I go. Yes, it's a little hard to be a business person 80% of the time. When all I want to do is shoot 100% of the time. It's o.k., and I know it goest with the territory. Hopefully the both of you will hook up with PhotographyMentor.com and I will be able to see you in action. Or, if you are ever in Denver, Colorado. I would be happy to be your tour guide. :) Paul
Zach Hey Abbie! I know it was a little hard to find the button to download the podcast, so we updated this post and put a link with instructions. The new info is on the first line of this post. Enjoy!!
Abbie Ok, so I hope this doesn't sound stupid but I couldn't find where to download the podcast... Do I have to be a member of Pictage or SmugMug?
MelissaF Awesome interview!
Kerry Garrison Oh you make me blush! Thanks for taking the time to be on the show! Its always great to have other fantastic photographers come on and share a piece of themselves to help others. It was much appreciated. Kerry Garrison

Published! TN Titan Celebrity Wedding in Southern Bride Magazine64---70

First, we had the honor of shooting the wedding of Tennessee Titan Reynaldo  Hill and his lovely bride, Janina (ah, what a sweet couple they are) and now we have the privileged of having our images published in Southern Bride magazine!

Their winter wedding at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN was absolutely beautiful with pink hues all throughout and they paid special attention to detail.  This wedding was fantastic to shoot and could not have been done without the plenty of vendors who came together to pull it off (for a list of these highly esteemed vendors, see the end of this post).

The Superb Vendors Who Made The Magic Happen:

The bride & groom photos that you see were taken at the hot Las Vegas style nightclub – FUSE when we were granted private access.

This wedding was coordinated by Courtney Hammons and her team from A Magical Affair and was held at Opryland Hotel.

All of the paper that you see (invitations, menus, programs, seating cards, etc) was custom created by the great Donette & Steve with Designs In Paper.

The cool Jen with Reveal Event Style was a huge part in planning the stunning decor.

Flowers were provided by A Village of Flowers.

Linens provided by Liz of Connie Duglin Linen.

The other team involved in the decor and who also did all the lighting is one of the coolest and kindest couples in the world with – Blue Nova Designs.

Our Bride & Groom had videographers capturing the day and they chose Danielle and her team Turning Point Productions.

The monogram they had on the dance floor & gobo, which you will see later, was provided by Go Disc Jokey of Nashville.

And last but not least, DJ Jamie Scott with Red Carpet Entertainment had the party going which you will see when we blog more!

2009 Bride’s Choice Award – Nashville’s Own GrayPhotography!64---70

2009 Bride's Choice Awards presented by WeddingWire | Wedding Cakes, Wedding Venues, Wedding Photographers & More

Official press release from Wedding Wire…

Wedding Wire, the nation’s leading wedding technology company, just announced that GrayPhotography has won the 2009 Bride’s Choice Awards™!

In its inaugural year, the Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and honors vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. This year’s recipients represent the top three percent of WeddingWire’s vendor community, which includes over 100,000 wedding vendors from across the US. That means GrayPhotography is one of the very best wedding Photographers.

Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds through surveys and reviews.

“We are excited to launch this annual award program to honor high-performing vendors based solely on the experiences of our WeddingWire community,” according to Timothy Chi, WeddingWire’s Chief Executive Officer. “This year’s recipients have set the bar high, exhibiting excellent service and expertise in the wedding industry.”
