What have we been up to this week? … about 60 feet!
I love roller coasters, don’t mind being up in high places, and like to do some dare-devilish things with no fear, but I have to admit this past week I truly had a moment where I was a bit freaked!
This whole week we have been in Wisconsin hanging with Zach’s family. The first half of the week we were at a family camp at Camp Forest Springs with the whole Gray crew and I had the sweet opportunity to do the high ropes course at camp with one of Zach’s younger brother’s Sam.
We had a great time going through the challenges as a team, and then comes the last part – getting down. The course reaches over 65 feet in the air, and at this point you have already chose to exit the High Ropes Course via swing, but now you’re looking down and not so sure you made the right choice… Let me give you an idea of what we were looking at…
You’re practically eye level with the tree tops… everyone on the ground looks like ants (ok, maybe giant ants at least)… the only way down is 25 feet of free fall before the arch catches you and swings you back into the air…. and the only thing preventing you from crashing to the ground in a heap of flesh and bones, is a cable and the harness you have on.
Yeah, I was a bit nervous I’d say. But Sam and I did it and it was a blast!!! Ah!!!
Swinging back up on the other side.
What a rush!
CONQUERED!
Of course our group prayed together before going up!
Another highlight of our time at family camp was when we went on what’s called the Voyager’s Breakfast. We get up at the crack of dawn (yes, 6:45AM is really early for us), canoe out across the lake to a spot where breakfast is made and cooked for us over a fire, and then canoe back.
This is Sam (one of Zach’s younger brothers) and myself…
Zach and I, with a shot taken by his bro Gabe.
Here are Zach’s brothers! L to R – Sam, Noah, & Gabe
This was the view as we were getting ready to canoe out to our breakfast spot!
Canoeing over! This is Zach’s dad :)
This is Zach’s dad, Keith and wife Jan. Awww… aren’t they cute?
We had a really great time. We even got to make our own dessert involving donuts, pineapple, butter, jelly, and cinnamon! After putting them together, you roll ‘em up in tinfoil and put them over the fire! Fun and delicious times.
It was great getting away and we had a really fun time being with Zach’s family there at camp.
Zach’s family does this every summer and Zach and I think it’s so cool to have a family tradition like this that is done with the kids. You get away with no work, no TV, no cell phone service, no dishes and just relax together!
We most definitely want to create our own familiy traditions like this when we have kids. Did your family growing up, or does your current family do anything along those lines? We want to hear about it!
LuciaI am officially very jealous. What a great way to build family memories!
2Duce2 VideographyWow guys! That's like a giant jungle gym for adults! Looks like you guys had fun! We also have a family adventure coming up next month -bring on the smores!
Christinewhat an adventure!!! love the photos!!! :)
ZachThat is soooo awesome to hear from you all! Love the home-made popcorn too!! Keep em coming!!
Yolie RamirezLove these photos, love the color. It reminds me I haven't done something like this in a long time. =)
Gina CarlinWow, such a fun adventure. Really makes me want to venture out. I really get you on the traditions and I agree -- it's so important for kids. That's what we remember, right? We make a big deal of holidays and we try to incorporate tiny traditions into each week. Friday night, for example, is movie night and we always have to pop the popcorn. I'll be back!
bobbie brownWhoa! Just looking at those rope pictures terrified me!!! Looks like you guys had a blast... great pix!
FeuzaWow, I have done ropes course and they are so good for team building but nothing this high....congrats! I love how in America, there so many cool traditions and really wanted to have my own, thought of buying an ornament every year for the tree for my boys later but husband is not a fan of tradion, perhaps I should revist that. How beautiful is that sky and canoe shot!!! and that breakfast looks so cool. Families rock!
Mary Natalie Hesterok, I would have been so scared, but I would have been on my knees in the group prayer screaming aloud for my life "Please Lord....." lol, looks like you guys have had such a great time!!
JessI would have been scared to death!
BTW, thank you for the sweet comment you left on my blog. I've loved looking at your photography site!

Jody and I had the privilege of shooting the 20th anniversary party for the Nashville Scene/NFocus magazines. It was a really fun night filled with fun and frivolity and we met a ton of super cool “who’s who” folks in Nashville! The event was sponsored by some different companies in town that you will see in some of the detail shots and was held at the awesome venue One Eleven.
It is really cool that we have been asked to take part in events like this and hope to continue to do more of them in the future! Enjoy the pics!
Thanks to Mike, Carla, Megan, Evan, and the rest of the fantabulous Nashville Scene team and sponsors who put on this grrrrrreat and happening party!
SeanIt feels like these really capture the essence of the party, and speak so well to the atmosphere of the place. There are some amazing candid moments, and as always, plenty of stunning OCF stuff! Wow!
FeuzaAhh, miss Nashville! love these, looked like such a fun event!

Tasha
And for this week’s Friday Fun blog post we bring you…. (drum-roll please)…
Yes, it’s true. We are going to be teaching our kitty how to use the toilet!! It can be done, my friends! We have ordered CitiKitty’s Cat Toilet Training Kit and are ready to start training our little buddy!
If you don’t believe us that this is possible, just check this video out (this is one of MANY on YouTube, so if you’re bored….). For the faint of heart, feel free to skip to 1:00, and THEN skip to 1:14 for a special trick this cat can do! Amazing..
Here is our kitty getting excited about using her new Toilet Training Kit! We leave this Saturday to go out of town for a week (no worries, we still will be blogging), so when we get back, the training will begin!
We know you all have been anxiously waiting to find out the name of our new kitty! Due to the overwhelming response, we had it in our minds to name her Pixel and then we found out that when we actually called her, it didn’t work so well. Then the crazy idea popped in our minds to name her…. (another drum-roll please)… …
…Starbucks!
Lame? Maybe.
This is why we named her Starbucks:
- We (well, Zach more) love Starbucks, and we love our kitty!
- We can call her Star for short, which also happens to be the name of the leading lady in The Lost Boys (another um, interesting 80′s movie Zach is a fan of)
- She’s black like coffee, but sweet like coffee with cream (she has white cream-like hair in her armpits and a dab on her chest! How cute!)
- She has the faintest brown hair on her back that looks like brown sugar (are you putting this all together yet?)
- She has stars on her collar
So, in honor of the many votes placed for our new kitty, her official name is Starbucks Pixel Gray.
*Cheers* *Applause*
Wow, can you believe we have now posted twice on this cat, including a video of a cat doing its business? We’re turning into those people who start treating their pets like their kids and get all weird about it… ;o) No worries though. We feel that cat toilet training may be very interesting to people so we’ll at least have another blog and maybe even a video of her toilet attempts… as long as she’s not embarrassed by it… ha ha
PS. If any of you out there are looking to add an older, but stinkin’ cool cat to your family, our friend, Jill is needing to give-a-way hers… the cat is friendly, chill, meows when you sneeze, and even takes baths.. all true…
Holly SteenGreat Posting. People need to share more about their cats on their blogs... yay
cassandra maaaaaaaaahhhhhh. that toliet tissue had me laughing so hard. Such a sweet little kitty on that video. And I LOVE the name you've picked for your kitty.
The Velvet TrunkOk, you two didn't tell me about toilet training the cat. May make me think twice about ever using your bathroom..lol.. And it would definitely add a whole new dimension to "Kitty sitting" ;-)
ChristineLOL that's hysterical! :) Good luck with training Starbucks - we demand a video in six months' time!! :)
Feuzathe kitty does not look excited at all! LOL, have fun
Marissa RodriguezThanks for stopping by my blog! I was so happy to visit yours and see a wonderful kitty post!!!! I love cats! :) The cat training kits looks very interesting thanks for sharing!!!
joiewow, cool stuff! however, i gotta say that kitty used a lot of TP.....so make sure your kitty learns the three squares rule. LOL!
starbucks is adorable.
ashwow. this is totally "Meet the Parents" in real life. haha It's funny how animals do instinctive things when it's not necessary anymore (i.e. scraping the seat like it was in a litter box). hope you guys have a great trip!
Amber VHi Jody! Thanks for commenting on my blog! Your new kitty is adorable and I love the name. I can't help but wonder...can the kitty be taught to use the flush?? LOL!
tammy molnarlove the name!!! how perfect!!! ha for a split second i thought that we were going to need to carry on the kitty toilet training during the babysitting adventures....somehow dave forgot to mention that part...then i realized it would begin the following week. whew. i didn't want to fail and have swimming toilet kitty. hahaha.
p.s. LOVE the new blog! kudos!

Meet Olia Zavozina (zav-oh-zeen-uh :)
Olia hails from Russia and is most definitely one to keep your eye on. After moving to the United States only a few years ago, Olia has already caught the attention of many, not only through her designs, but with her personality as well! Olia is amazingly sweet and kind and her work has been seen on Good Morning America, Oscar Night, 2008 CMT Awards, WTVF Channel 5, Nashville Lifestyles Magazine, Icon in the Gulch, and The Nashville RAGE, to name a few. Olia is very active in the local Nashville community and her gowns have been featured at many local fashion shows and at numerous charity fundraisers.
We had the great privilege to do a shoot of a few of Olia’s many pieces. Below we are giving you a sneak peek into some of her latest wedding designs.
FYI the lovely jewelry pieces that you see paired up with these gowns are the hand-made custom pieces by Adornments.
To see more, visit Olia’s Website as well as make sure to catch her at a fashion show! You can also view interviews conducted of Olia by WCSV News and the Nashville Edge in the media area of her website.
If you could have one custom clothing item made for you by Olia what would it be? Before you answer, make sure to check out the other pieces on her site just besides wedding dresses!
Zach & JodySoftbox! We took some behind-the-scenes photos of the setup so maybe we'll post those and blog on them soon!

Kate DuvalLove the blog, you two, and I was going to say something about this post...I think it had something to do with amazing light and awesome post processing, but I lost my thoughts laughing at your uber cute comment pics!! SO funny!
beckyawesome photos! I love how beautiful the light is!
So, guys love technology, especially technology that will give us countless hours of meaningless, mind-numbing fun! So, God created the IPhone and I-Pod Touch for our simple minded amusement (we think that it has really “important” things to tell us, but we really just play games on it). Many of us men will do almost anything to get our hands on this bright screened gold, including, but not limited to, begging, pleading, compromising or kicking and screaming on the living room floor (not that I did any of those :).
So what was Zach Gray, the mature 30 year old small business owner and operator willing to do to get his hands on a brand new 32 gig I-Pod touch? How about 15 years (depending on lifespan) of constant every day attention to an animal that I am allergic to! Yep, that’s what I did!
As Jody and I were in Kansas City, MO this past weekend hanging out with some super cool friends, we headed downtown to spend some time window shopping and hitting a few cool coffee shops. While walking down the main strip we bumped into this rather odd place that many cool (and not so cool) people were flocking to like foaming squirrels. It was this odd white and silver paradise of shiny screens and flashy things and we went inside and to my amazement, we had an absolute ball! It was hypnotic and I felt like I was drinking apple flavored kool aid (pun definitely intended), and I have to admit that I wanted something shiny for myself. After all, just because every item in the store was grossly overpriced does not mean that I was not tempted. After all, I am only a man.
So, I did what any guy in my position would do. I whined to my wife (who thinks that we make all financial decisions together, but really she holds all the cards to our checking account), until I got what I wanted! Oh, I had to give up 15 years of my life to take care of a cat that I never wanted (did I mention that I am allergic?), but I did what I did with no regrets. And here she is, the new love of my life, our little black cat (you thought I was going to say the I-Pod, didn’t you!?).
This image and the one below was taken when we went to Happy Tails to check out all the cats. She sat with both of us for over an hour and a half!
I think I have fallen in love with the cutest little whining kitty you have ever met. She loves to cuddle and purr, loves to play with her little fake mouse and as I type this she is sitting in a drawer next to my desk with her little pillow just so she can be close to me. Is that not cute? I guess I am just a big softy after all…. Oh, and the I-Pod Touch is cool too! :)
We have been taking name suggestions for our yet-to-be-named kitty, and below are our top picks! Now we are asking you to place your vote on your favorite name for the latest addition to our family!
Jen CreedSo cute! We have a black cat with a little white spot too...they are definitely the cutest!
FeuzaI vote for PIXEL! :-)
and love the picture of Zach coming out from the store-it's awesome
Jewelielynelectronics rule at our house, and my husband is also the delirious new owner of an ipod touch! seriously delirious! when watching tivo, he will pause, reverse, and play if he sees a commercial for the apps, then he will stop and download them immediately into his shiny new device. but he is not going to escape by getting me a cat--i think i am going to need an ipod touch of my own . . .
kati have a kitty just like yours and i call her Lola... ok this does not match all the other names you picked, but i am suggesting it anyway lol
Zach & JodyAbbie-
We are getting close to launching some new workshops, so feel free to email us to get the inside scoop!! Thanks for the great comment!!
AbbieJust found your site a few days ago and I'm so inspired!! Love your work, stories, humor! I'm so excited to be coming to Nashville. I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear when a workshop or some kind of event will be. Can't wait to meet you both!
Dustin BensonZack enough about the cat. What did you name your ipod?
Laura LempkeWhat about calling her Gadget? Pixel or Sypher would also be good :) Congrats on the iPod Touch Zach! Totally worth the sneezing! Now if only there were some way to get around the nut allergies! :)
HeatherMy first instinct was to vote for Jet . . . but Pixel is growing on me too Congrats on your new pet and new toy. :)
ZachUmm... How come no one is talking about my cool I-Pod touch?? It is like kitty mania on here!! :)
Sarah M.SO excited you guys got a cat. Maybe fat Daisy can play with her... then again... we know how that would probably go. OK I like Jet. And Pixel. :) YAY!
MelissaFI like Jet or a variation on Pixel--Pixie--even though that wasn't an option! I'm not normally a cat person, but she is very cute.
KristinaI already voted on Facebook, so I'll just repeat here what I said there... I like Pixel. But I also like Pepper (like black pepper).
WendySince I suggested Jet, I'll vote for that, but I love Pixel too! Love the suggestion of calling her Pixie.
Amberly HolmesPixel is ADORABLE. That's my vote. :]
I love you guys a whole bunch, and hope to see you soon!
Erin MelissaPixel :)
I LOVE the new blog... Keep up the great work! Hope to see you soon!!
MarianneI really like Pixel (closely related to "pixie" which is feminine), though I'm just dorky enough to like iKitty too. :)
(Keep in mind that growing up I had a dog named Mike, after Michelangelo.... No, not the artist, the Ninja Turtle!)
LaRae LobdellMy first cat growing up was an all black kitty with green eyes so I'm kind of smitten with your new kitten!
This 80's chick is going with "Stiles"! I'm also fond of "Diablita" :)
Congratulations you two!
Ashleyhahah "huge comments welcome." i think zach just wanted an excuse to flex his muscle :) oh sorry, back to the cat name. i'm still going all the way with Pixel. And i totally think it's feminine.
AmyI'm sorry...why isn't parma an option?? ;)
I can't believe you guys got a cat! Adorable! I'll cat-sit! :)

The great makeup was done by Aleta Miles (who sings as well!). This was our first time working with her and she did a FANTASTIC job! Hair was by Rebekah So’osema.
Notice the beautiful purple and white flowers in her bridal bouquet. Aren’t they great? The wedding flowers were provided by florist Wes Crissman from Gaylord Opryland.
Notice the great bridesmaids dresses below? Well they were custom made by Erin’s coordinator – Megan! She’s a women of many talents!
Normally we don’t ever really show the family portrait photos we take at weddings, BUT we had to include the below 2 shots of Simon with his family… Love it!
The wedding programs were done by Designs in Paper (these guys did all the paper for our Tennessee Titan wedding).
This tree that Simon & Erin are standing in front of in the next shot (and where they said their vows) is the oldest Oak tree in America!
The amazing catering for this reception (and yes, this food was GOOOOD) was provided by Chris Kelly Catering.
The perrywinkle, purple, and white table linens were supplied by Connie Douglin Linens.
Their white wedding cake adorned with purple florals was by the wonderful and tallented Amy at The Bake Shoppe.
Check out this kids face…. Think he’s hungry for cake?? ha ha…
For those wondering, their get-a-way car is 1928 Ford Model A-Shea replica provided by Earl & Jennifer Gragg with Dreams by Design!

Zach & JodyHmmm... Not sure who made the dress but we are on the case! Allison May (our designer) designed the blog and header and comment areas (her contact info is at the bottom of the blog). Jody came up with the idea for the signs we are holding in the comment area which are my favorite part too!! If I (Zach) do a post, then my name gets signed and there are pics of just me and the same goes for Jody. Then, when we post together it looks like it does now with our signatures together on the bottom right. Too fun!! Glad you guys are enjoying the blog and the photos!
FeuzaOkay first of all, Franklin is like in my top 3 places in the world right now. second of all, her dress is to die for! Third of all, that picture of her opening the door with the stair case is also to die for. In the last few weeks we have started a little tradition – A Friday Fun blog post. This week I, Jody, am bringing you a YouTube video that comes all the way from Belgium where I spent 2 of my childhood years. If only I stayed around long enough to be a part of this…
I think we all have seen the clip where people freeze in Grand Central Station, NY so I thought maybe you might enjoy this different display of… not sure what to call it :)
O Pa PaHow cool is this!!! Of all the songs in that great piece of work you had to pick this one, my fav. It is so much fun to see the bystanders reaction and and how contagious the international lauguage of MUSIC is. Oh how fun. Wish we could have stayed to be part of this. Something like it in Nashville? Sign me up! You realize I'll be singing this song all day.
Do, a deer, a female dear, Re,...
SarahOne of my most favorite things in the world is large-scale organized dances (a la Superstar). This is awesome!
